APC Hoodlums Vandalise Shops In Osun Capital, Osogbo Over Traders' Alleged Refusal To Vote For Governor Oyetola
Some traders on Old Galaxy road in Osogbo are counting their losses after the Osun State governorship election that was held on Saturday.
Thugs suspected to be members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), were reported to have attacked and destroyed their shops for voting for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s, candidate, Ademola Adeleke.
Adeleke defeated the incumbent Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, of the ruling APC in the keenly contested poll.
The Nigerian Civil Society Situation Room had described the poll as the most peaceful election in the history of Nigeria, saying that there no report of violence in all the areas monitored.
However, in a video that went viral on Monday, SaharaReporters saw some traders who had shops in Old Galaxy, Osogbo, lamenting the destruction of their business shops for voting for the PDP candidate in the election.
The voice in the video which showed the destroyed shops, said "This is where we are trading to just survive for living, the Igbos in old galaxy. We are not partisan and they said that the reason why they are breaking it (our shops) is because we are part of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); and that we are the people that voted PDP to win.
"Yes, we can cast our votes and we make our choice. I don't know the reason while they should attack and destroy our businesses because we have every right to exercise our franchise. I don't see the reason while it would be like this, destroying Igbo shops. It is not supposed to be so. Let them tell us if we are no longer the same one Nigeria. If they don't want us to live together, let them tell us.
"It is not supposed to be like this and I still know that even in our side - (Igbo land), we still have Yorubas, they are still in our place, we are not treating them like this. I don't see the reason our own should be different.
"The kind of things we are receiving - this is not the first time, in the past election we saw our businesses destroyed. Now this present one, we are still seeing it. I don't know whether we are safe here or we are not.”

The suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Abba Kyari, has filed a fresh bail application pending his trial in the wake of the terrorist attack on the Kuje Correctional Centre.
Kyari, who is facing drug trafficking charges, predicated his application on safety grounds, against the background of the recent terrorists' attack on the Kuje correctional centre, Abuja.
Justice Emeka Nwite has fixed Wednesday to hear the bail application.
In like manner, three other police officers are equally on trial over the alleged offences – ACP Sunday J. Ubia, Insp. Simon Agirigba and Insp. John Nuhu – also prayed the court to okay their release on bail on similar grounds.
However, the 3rd defendant, Bawa James, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, did not join them in the application.
Kyari’s counsel, Ikpeazu, said his client’s fresh application became necessary, considering the nature of assignments he undertook while performing his duties as a police officer, Daily Sun reports.
Ikpeazu submitted that some of the inmates on remand at the Kuje Correctional Centre were people that Kyari’s team at the Police IRT, made their arrest possible.
This came as the NDLEA, through its Director of Legal Services, Mr Sunday Joseph, opened its case against Kyari and his co-defendants after urging the court to refuse their fresh request for bail.
Meanwhile, the NDLEA on Monday opened its case against the Defendants by presenting its first witness before the court.
The first prosecution witness, Mrs Patricia Afolabi, a Commander of Narcotics attached to the forensic unit of the agency, told the court that part of her job specification involves receiving and conducting forensic analysis on drug exhibits.
She told the court that she had on February 7, received from the forensic liaison officer of the agency, Abubakar Aliyu, one sealed transparent evidence pack that contained 24 dispensing packs each.
The PW1 said each of the parks contained a white substance measured at 0.5grams. She said the package also contained a request form for analysis.
Trial Justice Emeka Nwite admitted all the exhibits in evidence without objection from the defendants.
Under cross-examination by counsel to Kyari, the witness said it was not true that every suspect in a drug deal must be present before such analysis could be conducted.
Afolabi said it was not customary that all suspects would be present when substances are also handed over for analysis.
Meanwhile, the court has adjourned further cross-examination of the witness to Tuesday.
“Contact with any of them”, she added.
The court adjourned further cross-examination of the witness till Tuesday.
The NDLEA alleged that Kyari and his men, unlawfully tampered with 21.25kilograms worth of cocaine that they seized from two apprehended drug traffickers- Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwane, even as it also accused them of dealing in cocaine worth 17.55kg.
It alleged that the police officers committed the offence between January 19 and 25, 2022, at the office of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) IRT, Abuja, in connivance with one ASP John Umoru (now at large), contrary to section 14(b) of the NDLEA Act, CAP N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

Notorious Terrorist Who Bagged Chieftaincy Title In Zamfara With Police Protection Still On Wanted List – Nigerian Police
A notorious terror kingpin, Ada Aleru, who was recently turbaned as the Sarkin Fulani (the chief of the Fulani) of the Yandoton Daji Emirate is still on wanted list, the Katsina State Police Command said on Monday.
Yandoton Daji is one of the two new emirates created by the Zamfara State government in May.
The Emir of the community on Saturday turbaned Aleru as Sarkin Fulani.
The decision to confer the title on the leader of a gang of bandits was premised on the role he played during a recent peace process locally arranged between the emirate and the bandits terrorising the Tsafe Local Government Area.
The turbaning ceremony was held at the palace of the Emir of Yandoton Daji and was attended by the council chairman of Tsafe Local Government and the state Commissioner of Security and Home Affairs, DIG Ibrahim Mamman Tsafe (rtd).
There were reportedly policemen at the event to provide security to the “dignitaries.”
The bandits’ leader was the arrowhead of a deadly raid on Kadisau, a community in the Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State, where about 52 people were killed.
He was declared wanted by the Katsina Police Command in 2019 with a bounty of N5million put on his head.
Speaking with Channels Television, Gambo Isah, spokesman for the police command, said the new Zamfara Chief is wanted for the killing of over 100 residents of Kadisau village in Faskari Local Government Area of the state.
Two Persons Dead As Ghana Confirms Outbreak Of Ebola-like Deadly Marburg Virus
CDC/Frederick Murphy
Two cases of the deadly Marburg virus have been identified in Ghana, the first time the Ebola-like disease has been found in the West African nation, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has said.
This was contained in a statement released by WHO after two unrelated patients, both from the southern Ashanti region of Ghana, tested positive for the virus.
CDC/Frederick Murphy http://www.theverge.com/2014/10/15/6981101/second-us-health-care-worker-diagnosed-with-ebola-texas
“One case was a 26-year-old male who checked into a hospital on 26 June 2022 and died on 27 June. The second case was a 51-year-old male who reported to the hospital on 28 June and died on the same day. Both cases sought treatment at the same hospital within days of each other,” the statement said.
The patients had developed symptoms including diarrhoea, fever, nausea, and vomiting. Both patients are now dead, the health body said that more than 90 contacts are being monitored.
Marburg is a highly infectious viral haemorrhagic fever in the same family as the more well-known Ebola virus disease.
The outbreak in Ghana makes it the second time the disease has been detected in West Africa. In 2021, Guinea confirmed a single case in an outbreak that was declared over on 16 September, five weeks after the initial case was detected.
The health body noted previous outbreaks and cases reported in Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, South Africa and Uganda, adding that it has reached out to neighbouring high-risk countries and they are on alert.
Marburg is transmitted to people from fruit bats and spreads among humans through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected people, surfaces and materials. Illness begins abruptly, with high fever, severe headache and malaise.
Many patients develop severe hemorrhagic signs within seven days. The health body notes that case fatality rates vary between 24 to 88 per cent in previously recorded outbreaks depending on virus strain and the quality of case management.
Buratai’s Proxy Sues Peoples Gazette, Files Freedom of Information Action Against Newspaper To Know Source Of Report Exposing Multi-billion Naira Cash, Watches Recovered From Former Army Chief
An Abuja-based Publisher and a proxy of a former Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai (retd.), Isah Bello, has sued Peoples Gazette newspaper for allegedly defaming the Ambassador to Benin Republic.
The Peoples Gazette had on June 23 reported that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) raided and recovered items including 50 luxury watches from the residence of Buratai, used by a proxy.
But Bello, in the suit before a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Abuja, claimed the newspaper failed to respond to a letter dated June 28, 2022, seeking to clarify the source of its story.
According to him, the failure to respond to the inquiry was a violation of section 4(a) of the Freedom of Information Act 2011 and therefore is wrongful and illegal.
Filed by Osuagwu Ugochukwu of St. Francis Xavier Solicitors & Associates (Legal Practitioners & Consultants), the Publisher asked the court to prevail on the defendant to supply the information requested in his letter.
Published in the Daily Trust Newspaper of July 18, 2022, the suit is titled ‘The originating summons pursuant to sections 2(6)& 20 Freedom of Information Act 2011 and under the inherent jurisdiction of this honorable court.’ See Also Exclusive EXCLUSIVE: Anti-graft Agency, ICPC Moves N2.1bn Recovered From Ex-Army Chief, Buratai To Central Bank, To Seek Forfeiture Of Posh Vehicles, House, Others 0 Comments 2 Weeks Ago
“Let the Peoples Gazette Ltd within forty-two (42) days after the service of this summons, inclusive of the day of such service cause an appearance to be entered for him to this summons which is issued upon the application of Isah Bello of No 64, Muhammadu Buhari Way, who claims to be entitled to the reliefs hereafter set out and for the determination of the following questions:
“Whether the refusal and/or neglect of the defendant to grant the application of the Plaintiff vide his letter dated June 28, 2022 does not amount to an infringement of the provision of Section 4 of the Freedom of information Act 2011?” part of the court documents published in the national daily reads.
The plaintiff claims against the defendant as follows: “A declaration that the refusal, failure and or neglect by the defendant to release the information requested by the plaintiff in his letter, dated June 28, 2022, amounts to violation of Section 4 (a) of the Freedom of Information Act 2011, and therefore is wrongful and illegal. “An order directing the defendant, including her servants, agents, privies, officials and or cohorts to furnish the plaintiff with detailed information as stated in plaintiff’s letter, dated June 28 2022, until judgment is delivered in this case within 14 days of the delivery of judgment.
“The cost of this action.
“Any further order(s) as the court may deem fit and proper to make in the circumstances of this case.”
The affidavit in support says partly: “I, Isah Bello, male, Muslim, publisher and Nigerian citizen of No 6A Muhammadu Buhari Way, Abuja, hereby makes an oath and states as follows: “That I am the deponent herein.
“That I am a publisher and have personal knowledge of the facts deposed herein. That I know as a fact as follows: ‘That the Federal Government of Nigeria has enacted the Freedom of Information Act, 2011.
‘That in the pursuit of her rights and pursuant to the right of access to information guaranteed by the Freedom of Information Act 2011, the plaintiff, by letter dated June 28, 2022.” asked the defendant to furnish him with certain information in her custody relating to its June 23, 2022 online publication entitled ‘ICPC RECOVERS MULTI BILLION-NAIRA

‘That the June 28, 2022 letter of the plaintiff requested the following response from the defendant viz:
‘Did you verify the allegations contained in your write-up with ICPC before publishing? This is because the ICPC press release of June 24, 2022 states to the contrary that Buratai owns the house in Wuse II, Abuja or has links with the K Salam Construction Company Nigeria Limited.
‘Did you check with the Corporate Affairs Commission as to who the owners of the K Salam Construction Company Nigeria limited are? And perhaps whether Buratai’s name appears on the company’s directorship?
‘You claimed you called Buratai during the ICPC raid on the Wuse 2 house. At what time and day did you call Ambassador Buratai? What number did you use in calling him? And which of the Buratai’s lines did you call?’
Describing the suit as laughable and idiotic, a public affairs analyst said, “They’re suing Peoples Gazette for refusing to honour Freedom of Information Action. It is not applicable to PG, they should have directed that to the ICPC (Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission).
“Besides, Buratai is using a third party, this is unacceptable in filing a lawsuit, the person has no locus. They are just trying to use it to silence PG.”

US Clashes With UAE, Denies Involvement In Arrest Of Late Jamal Khashoggi’s Former Lawyer
The United States has stated that it had not sought the arrest of the former lawyer of slain Saudi journalist, Jamal Khashoggi.
The development has contradicted the United Arab Emirates’ official explanation for the American citizen’s detention, according to Times of Israel.
The UAE on Saturday sentenced the civil rights lawyer, US citizen, Asim Ghafoor, to three years in prison followed by deportation on charges of money laundering and tax evasion.
Ghafoor has rejected the charges and said he had no idea he had been convicted on the charges at some point in the past, in absentia.
He was arrested from Dubai airport on Thursday as he was transiting to Istanbul for a wedding and taken to an Abu Dhabi detention center.
The UAE portrayed Ghafoor’s arrest as a coordinated move with the US to “combat transnational crimes,” saying American authorities had requested Emirati help with an investigation into Ghafoor’s alleged tax evasion and suspicious money transfers in the autocratic country.
But the US disputed that account, with the State Department saying it has “not sought the arrest of Mr. Ghafoor” while referring further questions to the US Department of Justice.
Ghafoor sits on the board of Washington-based human rights watchdog Democracy for the Arab World Now (DAWN) and was a close friend of Khashoggi, the dissident writer and Washington Post columnist dismembered by Saudi agents in Istanbul in 2018.
He represented Khashoggi as well as his fiancée, Hatice Cengiz.
The UAE announced Ghafoor’s sentencing a day after DAWN raised the alarm of his arrest. The arrest also came the day after US President Joe Biden left the region after a four-day visit to Israel, the West Bank and Saudi Arabia and returned to Washington.
The State Department said it had raised Ghafoor’s detention “at senior levels with Emirati authorities” and provided consular support, with American officials seeing Ghafoor most recently on Sunday.
“We have conveyed our expectation that Mr. Ghafoor’s rights to a fair and public hearing and to fair trial guarantees be fully respected and that he be treated humanely,” the statement added.
The Rain of Naira Narrowed The Choice Of The Osun People, By Oluwaseyi Oyetunbi
Osun has decided to give the baton of governance to Sen. Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, who was declared winner of the just concluded Osun2022 gubernatorial election after leading the incumbent governor, Adegboyega Oyetola with over 28,000 votes to carry-on from (him) his predecessor. The governor-elect who alleged the people's mandate was stolen in the last election couldn't contain his joy after he was declared winner on Sunday, 17th July.
The election was surprisingly a two-horse race in spite of having fifteen candidates in the race. The APC candidate, H.E Adegboyega Oyetola and the PDP candidate, Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke's money induced performance eclipsed other candidates so much that the candidate that came third struggled to muster a total votes of 10,104. This voting pattern can be attributed to many factors like the popularity of the two major candidates and perhaps the popularity of the political parties. However, candidates like Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi of the Accord Party and RT Hon. Lasun Yusuf of the Labour Party equally have similar popularity in Osun politics, looking at their antecedents, previously held position and bromance with key members of their former political parties fought to garner a total vote of 4515 and 2729 respectively.
Should we agree that when the governor-elect said it was going to be fire for fire, he had come with enough dollars and pounds, he was not making an empty boast? The institutionalization of vote-buying in the Osun2022 election was well planned and complex to be an urgent strategy. I voted at unit 7, ward 3, Gbongan, Ayedaade Local Government, what I witnessed was an absolute transactional electoral process. It was so sophisticated that I believe it took a lot of planning to make it seamless. People who were said to be for PDP were given N5,000, those for APC got N3,000 each. The process could best be described as a rain of naira across the state.
How the process was designed was that, once you print thumb on the ballot paper, you must bend your ballot paper towards the direction of where the canvassers are (those are people who supervise who the electorates print their thumbs for) for confirmation and you proceed to the next stage. Once confirmation is done, voters move near their respective canvassers for a card, they then take the card to vote-buying cashiers who are stationed on the next street. It was so bad that people were engaged right on the queue by these so called canvassers to sell their votes for money enough to cook soup for that day. I saw people being embarrased by these canvassers you find loitering around polling units marketing how much good their money can do to electorates like traders inside Molue.
Thus, the election was cash-and-carry/no-money-no-vote, and to a very large extent it limited the choices of the unsuspecting, disoriented electorates who are too poor to resist offer to sell their mandate for less than $10.
Sen. Ademola Adeleke and the PDP did not only pay more for vote-buying, they mobilized a lot of people from neighboring states like Oyo, Ondo and Ekiti into Osun to register for PVC and vote in the election. Also, the rhetoric of the stolen mandate gave him a fair edge.
While we thank President Muhammadu Buhari for non-interference in the process, let us also note that the just concluded election is not credible and strongly inimical to the tenets of democracy.
The people seemed to be defeated by the system that has so much weaponized poverty to the point that for a candidate to garner a thousand vote, he must be sure of having a certain amount of millions to buy the amount of votes he can afford. People may agree with your agenda, but their conviction is largely vested on how much you can spend without looking back. Everything considered, the institutionalization of vote-buying is a cog in the wheel of our democracy as a nation and a discouraging factor for young, idea-driven Nigerians who may be willing to replicate what is obtainable in most developed countries, and perhaps what works for our generation.
Democracy is extremely expensive, more exhaustive for countries with high population like Nigeria; vote-buying has made it even near-impossible for the the country to achieve leaders who know it for a fact that they owe the populace good governance because they were voted on the basis of their ideas and campaign promises. But, in the case where electing a candidate becomes transactional, it becomes a story of, "I bought my way here"
The election however recorded tranquility and peace. We can do better as a nation by discouraging vote-buying through whatever means that can work. Nigeria is gradually on the threshold of slipping into the grips of the aristocrats who may have the money to buy votes but lack problem-solving ideas to set the country on a path of transformation.

N54billion Gratuities: Governor Okowa Disowns Protesting Retired School Teachers In Delta
Delta state governor Ifeanyi Okowa
The Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has disowned retired primary school teachers in the state who took to the streets of Asaba, the state capital to protest against the non-payment of their gratuities running into N54billion.

They also chanted solidarity and anti-Okowa songs to drive home their demands for payment of their gratuities.
Reacting to the last week Thursday protest by the retired primary school teachers at a press conference in Asaba, on Monday, Okowa, the state Commissioner for Information, Charles Aniagwu, said the protesting pensioners in the state were not retirees of the state government but primary school retirees under the local government councils.
According to Aniagwu, the protests targeted at maligning and impugning the reputation of the governor even as he noted that the protest was politically motivated, alleging that "The leader of the protesting retirees is Mrs Helen Ejie, the All Progressives Congress Delta North Women leader.
“The leader of the protesters is Mrs Helen Ejie, a retired teacher from Iyiatu Primary School, Utagba-Ogbe in Ndokwa West.
"She retired in 2016 and is the coordinator of APC women in Delta North. We have seen some stage-managed protests by individuals who ordinarily are supposed to appreciate what the state government has done. It is public knowledge that primary schools are under the local government councils in terms of how they are remunerated and how they operate.
“Sometime last year, this same woman led a few persons contrary to the reality of what we are doing they come to Asaba, rub themselves on the ground, pour invectives on the governor in line with what those who have asked them to go and demonstrate. They will begin to shout and cast aspersions on the person and office of the governor.
The information commissioner, also lambasted the Minister of State For Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo over what he called "an uncharitable comment on the state-of-affairs in the state", said, "We need to remind Festus Keyamo that in Delta, our universities are working while the ones that belong to the Federal government are still at home and we urge him to work seriously with his senior colleague to ensure that the issues raised by ASUU (the Academic Staff Union of Universities) are resolved as soon as possible.”

First Bank Nigeria
A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has in the interim restrained First Bank Nigeria Holdings Plc, from implementing all the decisions reached at its recently held 10th Annual General Meeting (AGM).
FBN Holdings PLC is the controlling owner of First Bank of Nigeria Plc hel th AGM on June 20, 2022, at Oriental Hotel, Lagos.
First Bank Nigeria Logo
Specifically, Justice Akintayo Aluko who presided over the court, made the restrained order, directing FBN Holdings Plc and all the respondents in the suit filed against it by one of the shareholders in the company, to maintain the status quo ante bellum prevailing before the AGM was held on June 20, 2022.
The order of the court, thereby effectively putting on hold the appointment of Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo, as the Group Managing Director and Mr. Julius Omodayo Owotuga, as Non-Executive Director respectively.
Also, by implication of the order, the court has also stopped the respondents from raising or issuing shares capital of the company and from implementing any of the resolutions reached at the 10th AGM.
Named as respondents in the suit are First Bank Holdings Plc, Alhaji Ahmed Abdullahi, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Julius Omodayo-Owotuga, Non-Executive Director and Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo, Group Managing Director.
Justice Aluko granted the order after hearing arguments from human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, on behalf of the petitioner, Mr. Olusegun Onagoruwa, an aggrieved shareholder of FBN Holding Plc.
The Petition filed by Mr. Onagoruwa, claims that the affairs of the company are being run illegally and oppressively.
Principally, the Petitioner is contending in the suit that he was not served with statutory notice for the 10th AGM of the company which was held on 20th June, 2022.
Arguing the case on behalf of the petitioner, Mr. Adegboruwa (SAN), contended that the petitioner was by law entitled to be served with notice of the AGM and having not been served, there is a case of breach of his constitutional right to fair hearing in the determination of the Petitioner’s civil rights and obligations.
Adegboruwa also argued that the law is settled that once a breach of fair hearing has occurred, any decision taken pursuant to such breach must be set aside by the court.
Furthermore, it was Adegboruwa’s argument on behalf of the Petitioner that the decisions and resolutions of the 10th AGM, held on June 20,2922 especially in relation to the appointment of Directors, were null and void as shareholders were not given the opportunity to know and approve the new Board of Directors appointed for the company by the Central Bank Governor and that the powers of the CBN Governor to sack or appoint directors for the company did not take away the powers of shareholders to confirm such directors.
The order of the court followed a motion ex-parte filed on July 6, 2022, seeking to preserve the subject matter of the Petition before the Court.
The petitioner, in a 52 paragraph affidavit in support, stated that he is a shareholder of FBN Holdings Plc and he was not served with notice of the AGM held on June 20, 2022 at Oriental Hotel. Adding that the AGM had not confirm or approved the appointment of the Board of Directors constituted by the Central Bank Governor before the said board proceeded to appoint Nnamdi Okonkwo as Group Managing Director and Julius Omodayo-Owotuga as Non-Executive Director.
The petitioner averred that the kernel of the matter is the decision and resolutions reached at the just concluded Annual General meeting of the first Respondent held on Monday, 20, June, 2022. Nigeria Police Recommend Prosecution Of Akwa Ibom APC Chairman Who Forged Documents To Smuggle In Akpabio As Winner Of Senatorial Primaries
The Nigeria Police Force Legal Department has recommended the prosecution of Stephen Ntokekpo, factional Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Akwa Ibom State.
This followed a petition filed against him by the chairman of the State Congress Committee of the party, Banki Sheriff, who accused him of forging his signature on what Ntokekpo had been parading as the result of the Congress, declaring himself as the winner.
The immediate Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, is backing Ntokekpo’s faction.
The faction also conducted the primary that declared Akpabio as the APC candidate for Akwa Ibom North-West.
Ten persons had contested for the office of the state chairman of the APC in Akwa Ibom on October 16, 2021, while 1,794 delegates voted in the congress.
Austin Ekanem who has the support of former national secretary of the APC, John Akpanudoedehe had the highest number of votes cast, 1,278, according to the INEC document, followed by Otu Toyo, with 190 votes.
Another candidate, Udeme Ekot, had 50 votes.
Ntukekpo who is being accused of forgery had six votes, even when he did not participate in the congress.
However, he approached a Federal High Court with a “summary result sheet” of the state congress, which showed him as the elected chairman of the party in Akwa Ibom.
Banki, who headed a seven-man committee that conducted the congress alerted the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the State Security Service (SSS), also known as the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Chairman of INEC that his signature was forged by Ntukekpo in the court document.
In the forged document, the suspect who had 006 votes changed it to 1006 while that of Ekanem was falsified to read 278 instead of 1,278 votes.
In a police report seen by SaharaReporters, Ntukekpo was recommended for prosecution by the police legal department.
Ekanem was also certified as the original chairman of the party in Akwa Ibom.
The report was from the legal prosecution section of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) of the Nigeria Police Force.
The letter was dated July 4, 2022, signed by the Commissioner of Police, Legal/Prosecution Section, FCIID, Abuja, DCP Ochogwu Ogbeh W. A and addressed to the Deputy Inspector General of Police at FCID, Abuja with Yusuf Sheriff Banki as the complainant and Steven Leo Ntukepo as the suspect.
“It says the petitioner, in this case, Mr Yusuf Sherif Banki had in a letter dated 11 January 2022 addressed to the Inspector-General of Police stating that he was the Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC) Congress Committee, Akwa Ibom State during the recently conducted Nationwide Congress of the APC.
“That in his capacity as the Chairman, he superintended over the Congress and submitted report with summary of result sheet to the APC National Secretariat. That couple of days ago, he was furnished with a court process by the legal Department of his party from the Federal High Court, Abuja between Stephen Leo Ntukepo (the suspect) and two others and APC and three others where his signature was forged on several documents purported to be the result of Akwa Ibom State Congress.
“The petitioner denied and claimed that the documents are fake and the signature contained therein are forged.
“The police commissioner noted that "having gone through the facts, statements of parties and documents attached therein, it was observed that all the seven-man committee gave statement to the police and they corroborated each other that election was held, vote counted in the presence of security agencies and delegates and R Augustine E. Ekeanem was announced and declared winner with 1,278 votes except Akeem Ayo Babalola whose statement differ from the six members of the Committee that there was no enough time to count the ballot papers one after the other as it was already late, that the chairman Hon. Yusuf Sheriff Banki just announced the prepared list he has ad winners of the Congress elected and that he did not sign the report as he was not happy with the report.
“It was further observed that Akeem Ayo Babalola in his statement to the police did not disclose who was announced or declared as the winner of the election. It was also observed that records received from both Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and All Progressives Congress Chairman of Uyo Akwa Ibom State.
“That Akeem Ayo Babalola who denied in his statement not to have signed the report as he was not happy with the report documents supplied by the APC to the police shows he signed the report.
“It is also observed that the suspect uttered (altered) a copy of All Progressives Congress summary result sheets which returned him as the winner of the election held in Akwa Ibom State purportedly signed by the complainant and used same in support of his claim in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1635/2021 before Federal High Court, Abuja wherein he is the first plaintiff.
“The advice from the police legal department said, "From the facts and available evidence in the case file, we are of the considered opinion that a prima face case of impersonation and forgery has been established against the suspect, Stephen Leo Ntukepo and therefore advise that the suspect be charged to court accordingly.
"This is respectfully forwarded for the Deputy Inspector-General of Police information and further directive, please.
"That the police extended investigation to the National Chairman of the APC and INEC to avail them with the certified true copy of the result sheet and documents showing the winner and the result sheet show that Augustine Ekeanem is the winner."
It noted that “From the facts and available evidence in the case file, we are of the considered opinion that a prima facie case of impersonation and forgery has been established against the suspect, Stephen Leo Ntukekpo and therefore advise that the suspect be charged to court accordingly.”

Oyo State Deputy Governor, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan
The impeached Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Rauf Olaniyan, has accused the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Munta Abimbola, and the investigation panel that probed the allegations raised against him (Olaniyan) of bribery.
Olaniyan, who had earlier faulted the CJ over the constitution of the seven-man panel, made the accusation in a statement by his lawyer, Afolabi Fashanu (SAN), on Monday.
The impeached Deputy Governor alleged that the investigation panel was paid to ensure his removal.
Olaniyan described the judgment passed against him by the panel as a charade that would not stand the test of time, adding that the panel members allowed themselves to be compromised and used to do a hatchet job.
In a statement, the impeached deputy governor, through his lawyer, said, “The investigation by the committee set up by the Honorable Chief Judge is a charade that cannot stand the test of time. In the first instance, the Honorable Chief Judge, with respect, breached his oath of office by ignoring the service of notice of appeal and application for injunction pending appeal when he proceeded to constitute the investigation committee.
“This is against established law and practice. On the part of the panel, they were appointed and paid to do a budge job, which must be contrary to good conscience.
“They served the Deputy Governor on Friday around 10:45 am and asked him to appear at 11am. We wrote to inform them that His Excellency needed time to prepare for his defence, in their desperation to do the job for which they were paid, they rejected the letter, sat on Saturday and completed their task the same day.
“Where is the fairness here? The members of the committee are supposed to be men above board. You have a Reverend father, a Jerusalem Pilgrim, and an Alhaji among them. This is a clear evidence that we are not yet ripe for democratic practice.”

Over 14 Young Men Coming Back From a Traditional Wedding Were Slaughtered On The Streets Of Awo (Awo-Omamma). I Can't Share The Gruesome Videos. May God Give Strength To The Family Of The Victims."
Another voice at the background said "Ogwu Mozambique of Amuri, Hope Uzodimma and Ebube-Agu people, this Ebube-Agu must end. We must put a stop to these Ebube-Agu atrocities; they are doing a very big harm in Awo-Omamma: Oru East and Oru West as a whole, killing our youths for no reason. Why?

A group, Forum of Concerned Nigerians (FCN) has warned the Nigerian government against any harm on Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State.
The group which gave the warning while addressing a press conference Monday in Makurdi, the state capital said that it would resist any form of attempt at silencing the governor.
FCN, citing a series of instances, alleged that the governor had come under heavy wave of victimisation from the Federal Government and its agents.
The group’s spokesman, Peter Shande, called on the international communities to act on the alarm raised by the Benue State Governor concerning rising cases of violence and killings in the country.
The group said, “We have carefully watched the Buhari administration and its agents serially use the media to threaten and vilify the person and office of the Benue State Governor. This is unacceptable.
“What is Ortom’s offence? Is it a crime to choose to stand with one’s people in the face of brazen injustice, oppression and impunity? Since 2017, Governor Ortom has come under a heavy wave of sponsored blackmail and victimisation from the Federal Government and its willing agents.”
FCN in the statement jointly signed with Peter Shande, Goodluck Ibem (Umuahia), Fredrick Adebayo (Lagos), Yakubu Ahmed (Kaduna), Tonye Lawson (Port Harcourt), Samson Ochono (Abuja), Timothy Hembaor (Makurdi) and Andrew Longyem (Jos) maintained that “Governor Ortom is one Nigerian who has chosen to be the voice of the voiceless, so any attempt at silencing him will mean an attempt to silence over 200 million helpless Nigerians, and such an attempt will be stoutly resisted.”
In its warning to the federal government, the group said, “We will not fail to warn the Presidency that we are watching keenly, and nothing must happen to Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom,” stressing that the governor represents the suffering and marginalised people of this country who are being slaughtered like animals by terrorists almost daily.”
It lamented that “Nigeria is in a coma and anyone who is pretending about it is living in self-denial” pointing out that “the government of President Muhammadu Buhari has failed the people of the country and his administration is clearly complicit in the spate of violence across the country and the killing of innocent people.”
