BREAKING: Buhari's Minister And Former Osun Governor, Aregbesola Reacts To Oyetola’s Defeat In Governorship Election
The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has broken his silence on the just-concluded Osun State Governorship election.
The former Osun State governor, who was absent from the election, had kept mute on development in Osun State after his comments against the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress and his political boss, Bola Tinubu, in February 2022.
SaharaReporters had reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission on Sunday morning declared Ademola Adeleke the Governor-Elect of Osun State after garnering a majority of votes cast in the governorship election in the state.
The victory came for Adeleke nearly four years after failing by a small margin in his bid to govern Osun State.
Aregbesola said, "'This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.' – (Daniel 4:17),” the minister posted.
Aregbesola earlier said no more of the politics of godfatherism and enthronement by some leaders who equated themselves to the status of a god.
The minister had said he trusted Tinubu, but the ex-governor of Lagos State repaid him with betrayal.
Aregbesola, who was the Governor of Osun State from 2010 to 2018, accused Tinubu and ex-governor of Osun State, Bisi Akande, of forcing the current governor of the state, Gboyega Oyetola, on the people against popular will.
Instead, the minister then asked the party members in Osun to support a former Secretary to the State Government, Moshood Adeoti, who was later defeated in the primary election.
Aregbesola's moves to later reconcile with Tinubu yielded no result.
Before Saturday's election, a faction of the APC led by the minister, the Osun Progressives, released a statement noting that despite the feud, its members would remain in APC.
BREAKING: PDP’s Adeleke Defeats Governor Oyetola To Win Osun Election
The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has won the governorship election of Osun State.
Adeleke beat Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the ruling All Progressives Congress with 402,979 votes to 375,077 votes.
Adeleke won in 17 local government areas including Olorunda, Ede South, Orolu, Osogbo, Odo Otin, Ifelodun, Atakumosa, and Ila,
The pioneer National Chairman of the ruling APC, Bisi Akande is from Ila LGA.
Meanwhile, Governor Oyetola won in 13 local government areas including Iwo, Ayedaade, Ife South and Ife East.
The 2022 Osun governorship election took place in all the 30 local government areas of the state with 3,763 polling units and 332 registration areas. See Also Elections #OsunDecides2022: INEC Begins Announcement Of Result 0 Comments 1 Week Ago
The other 15 political parties’ candidates in the election include: Mr Oyegoke Omigbodun, Social Democratic Party (SDP); Dr Akin Ogunbiyi (Accord); Mr Yusuf Lasun (Labour Party); Munirudeen Atanda (Action Democratic Party).
Accord Party came third with 4,508 votes, followed by Labour Party with 2,729 votes, African Action Congress with 2,141 votes and Social Democratic Party with 515 votes.
In 2018, the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Oyetola as winner, having polled 255,505 votes against Adeleke, who had 255,023 votes at the end of a supplementary election, which held in seven polling units across four local governments amidst allegations of harassment and other forms of malpractice.

#Osun Decides: Governor Oyetola Wins Two Local Governments, PDP’s Adeleke Wins Eight As Collation Continues
The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has taken an early lead in the governorship election of Osun State.
According to results from the portal of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Adeleke is leading Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
He has so far won eight LGAs — Olorunda, Ede South, Orolu, Osogbo, Odo Otin, Ifelodun, Atakumosa, Ila.
The pioneer leader of the ruling All Progressive Congress, Bisi Akande is from Ila LGA.
Meanwhile, Governor Oyetola won in Iwo and Ayedade LGAs.
The 2022 Osun governorship election, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is taking place in all the 30 local government areas of the state with 3,763 polling units and 332 registration areas.
The other 15 political parties’ candidates participating in the election include: Mr Oyegoke Omigbodun, Social Democratic Party (SDP); Dr Akin Ogunbiyi (Accord); Mr Yusuf Lasun (Labour Party); Munirudeen Atanda (Action Democratic Party).
In 2018, INEC declared Oyetola as winner, having polled 255,505 votes against Adeleke, who had 255,023 votes at the end of a supplementary election, which held in seven polling units across four local governments amidst allegations of harassment and other forms of malpractice.
#Osun Decides: Running To Abuja Cannot Save APC, Governor Oyetola From Looming Defeat – PDP Taunts Tinubu
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has advised the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, to know that rushing to Abuja in the face of “looming defeat” of his party in the Osun State governorship election could not overturn the will of the people at the poll.
The PDP in a statement on Saturday night said it was aware that some APC leaders were rushing to Abuja in a desperate move to manipulate the process and frustrate the smooth conclusion of the election, having realised that the APC had been rejected by the people.
PDP, in the statement by its spokesman, Debo Ologunagba said, “Asiwaju Tinubu must know that the people of Osun State have spoken and that his running to Abuja cannot save the deflated Governor Gboyega Oyetola from the reverberating verdict of the ballot box.
“Our Party charges the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the APC leadership in Abuja to note that the course of the election is already known to all and that the people of Osun State will never accept any outcome to the contrary.”
The PDP charged INEC to resist the manipulations and pressure from the APC by sticking to its assurance to the people that the election will be transparent and conclusive at the first ballot.
The PDP congratulated the people of Osun State and urged them to remain at alert, protect their votes and ensure that the results declared at the polling centers are not altered but duly reflected at the collation and final declaration.
There are a total of 1,955,657 registered voters in the election which held across 3,763 polling units.
The 15 political parties’ candidates participating in the election include: Mr Oyegoke Omigbodun, Social Democratic Party (SDP); Dr Akin Ogunbiyi (Accord); Mr Yusuf Lasun (Labour Party); Munirudeen Atanda (Action Democratic Party).
More voters are expected to participate in the election than the 2018 poll when 767,444 electorates out of the 1,668,524 registered voters exercised their franchise.
In 2018, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Gboyega Oyetola as winner, having polled 255,505 votes against PDP’s Ademola Adeleke, who had 255,023 votes at the end of a supplementary election, which held in seven polling units across four local governments amidst allegations of harassment and other forms of malpractice.
The INEC had scheduled the rerun after declaring the main election inconclusive, won by Adeleke with 353 votes after polling 254,698 against Oyetola’s 254,345. It stated that the margin of votes between Adeleke and Oyetola was less than the number of cancelled votes in seven polling units.
Are Nigerian Christians The Enemy Of Christianity In Nigeria? By Bolaji O. Akinyemi
The author, Dr Bolaji O. Akinyemi
The falcon is screaming itself out, yet the falconet cannot hear. Justice is judged of her valiant and equity is executed on the street by her own beneficiaries. The center indeed can no longer hold. The voice of the shepherd is lost on the sheep to the subtle momentarily soothing whisper of the hireling luring it to the slaughter slab.
Deafening the nation is a noice of confusion coming from the church shouting Islamization agenda! Islamization agenda!! Islamization agenda!!!
Of course this agenda is real but it is not something that noise and empty threat can drown.
Truth must be told this agenda is beyond our country. It's a drive by Islamic fundamentalists to have control of Africa, the strategic position, economy and size of Nigeria makes her a soft target for the realization of an agenda far from being noble.
In the East African country of Kenya the Al-Shabaab had their worst hit on that country in 2019 at the Dusit D2 Hotel Complex, with the use of a suicide vest.
In Uganda, ISLAMIC State Central African Province claimed responsibility for the bombing of Central business district in Kampala.
In the west African country of Burkina Faso, Al-Qaeda and the Islamic state attacks on the country have recorded over 2000 deaths and 1.8 million displaced persons.
This international terror network operation in Africa has triggered the historical terror that predates the territory named Nigeria by her British colonial Master. A result of rivalry of the West and Shua Arabs for territorial control during our colonial days, that is the reason we are where we are. While the West is done in Africa but not dusted, returning home but tying the apron of the former colonial states to their skirts. This is made obvious by their support for inept leadership succession who are unable to lead our independent states out of dependency on former colonial states. Shua Arabs of course have nowhere to go and have therefore found life in the terror activities of Islamic fundamentalists to fulfill their RUGA (meaning my land in fulfude) dream.
We must speak and write to prick the consciences of Christian faithful who in their present situation are not better than subjects of traditional rulers of African states who thrive through conspiracy with the colonial masters against their own people. The individual Christian must take his faith and fate in his own hands. Some Pastors today are trading the number of the members and branches of their church for political relevance and dividend with politicians.
If with your faithfulness to tithe and offering your pastor still has need to trade out your collective demography for personal gain then something is wrong. Standing with Northern Christians is sancrosant to our existential continuity as men of faith and of tribes. One statement made at St Francis Owo attack is you could be next! Owo in Ondo state is between Benin in Edo State and Osogbo in Osun state, with average driving distance of an hour. Owo is a driving distance of 4 hours to Lagos. Can your Lagos and my Lagos be the next?
History doesn't lie, a people lost to history are dead while they yet live. Historically, this Fulani ethnic warfare wrapped under religious garb, the first causalities are the non Fulani Habe Kings of Hausa states, overthrown by their own people under the quest for practising true Islam which established the present Emirate structure in 1804.
Second are the Hausas and other indigenous non Fulani Northerners, especially the Christians, hoodwinked under one North, already subdued.
Third are the Christian Middle belt deceived under one regional camouflage now being ravaged by herdsmen unchallenged.
The fourth will be the southern Christians lured under a muslim-muslim/North-South presidential ticket and this is where we are in 2022.
And the fifth will be the Yoruba Muslim casualties who should be smelling the coffee now before we are all faced with the final onslaught of Muslim - Muslim/North-North tickets in 2027.
In all these battles, the victims are first their foot soldiers who are sent to divide and dislodge their own people before realizing their folly.
The average period of slumber or comatose is 35 years before they wake up, if they ever do!
In their deception they are appealing to your liberalism, to say religion doesn't matter and you are foolishly running with it without putting their perspective in context of their actions. I love a public statement circulating on this, which I have modified to get home my points.
"YOU say RELIGION does not matter but some people want Hijab to be worn in all public Secondary Schools.
YOU say RELIGION does not matter but you cannot sell alcohol in some states in NIGERIA, but the taxes from its sales can build you a Mosque.
YOU say RELIGION does not matter in NIGERIA but we have a Constitution that recognises the CRIMINAL CODE in the South and PENAL CODE (Sharia law) in the North.
YOU say RELIGION does not matter but HISBAH is a religious police backed by law and it's officers can arrest a normal Police officer.
YOU say RELIGION does not matter but Leah Sharibu was denied freedom because those that negotiated the release of the kidnapped Dapchi school girls were of different RELIGION.
YOU say RELIGION does not matter but a Northern Christian is bad for political business.
YOU say RELIGION does not matter but enact religious beliefs into our laws. If religious beliefs inspire the laws that govern us, then the influence of RELIGION shouldn't be down played
YOU say RELIGION does not matter but a Christian woman was killed in Abuja because she was preaching close to a Mosque. Her killers are still walking around freely and will vote during the coming elections.
YOU say RELIGION does not matter but our government continues to waste the resources of a constitutional "secular state" on sponsorship of pilgrimages to Mecca and Jerusalem every year for political patronage.
YOU say RELIGION does not matter yet churches are set ablaze by those shouting "Allahu Akbar"
YOU says RELIGION does not matter but you cannot build churches in major cities of Northern Nigeria, and when you do it is never going to be without Government approval.
YOU say RELIGION does not matter but when we had a Christian PRESIDENT, our president now, said then, "an attack on Boko Haram was an attack on the NORTH".
Only two countries in the world today have dealt ruthlessly with terrorism and terrorists, Israel and Egypt. I won't refer you to the example of Israel, because of diplomatic biasness of this Administration.
The author, Dr Bolaji O. Akinyemi
Nigerians should go and study what happened in Egypt in 2011, 2012 and 2013 and look out for similarities with the goings-on in their country.
In 2011, the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt formed a party, Freedom and Justice Party and used that platform to install President Morsi (an Islamic fundamentalist and member of the Muslim Brotherhood) in 2012. Thankfully, in 2013, the Egyptian military got a wind of the game of the Islamists and quickly moved to remove President Morsi. Consequently, the military saved the country from sliding fully into the hands of the fundamentalists.
In February 2013, the Islamists in Nigeria, masquerading as democrats, formed a party, All Progressives Congress, and used that platform to clinch power in 2015. They installed a man who was the grand patron of BH who never hesitated to speak publicly in favour of the terrorists.
Since he had chosen a famous pastor from a majority ethnic group as Vee Pee, ethnic sentiments blinded many within the Vee Pee's Church family and ethnic group from seeing the agenda of the terrorists. They rejoiced that their brother was the second in command to the new president.
After over seven years in office, we all have seen what the Islamists have done to the Vee Pee's office and now they are set to advance their evil agenda. That's the reason for the Muslim-Muslim ticket. Regrettably, many citizens still think it's all about politics and are vigorously discussing the 2023 elections. Some are glad that their ethnic warlord has been named the candidate of the ruling party.
Sadly, the experiment that failed in Egypt is working in Nigeria because our military is in bed with the terrorists; at least General T.Y Danjuma said so. Since our military has been captured by the Islamists, the onus now lies on the ordinary people to fight and save their country. Unfortunately, not many of them truly know what's going on. If you refuse to see the similarities between the Egyptian experiment and the politics of 2023 in Nigeria, then you are blind and irredeemable. May God help you!

Osinbajo had made the announcement on his verified Twitter page on Saturday evening.
However, a statement signed by Adedoyin Dosunmu-Ogunbi, medical director, Duchess International Hospital, indicated that the vice-president would be discharged within a few days.
“The Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCON, was admitted to the Duchess International Hospital GRA, Ikeja, Lagos State, today on account of a fracture of his right femur (thigh bone), possibly related to a longstanding injury associated with a game of squash,” the statement by Dosunmu-Ogunbi reads.

“The operation was successful, and he is expected to be discharged within the next few days.”
AAC Party Disclaims Adeshina As Lagos Governorship Candidate, Asks NTA To Withdraw Invitation
The African Action Congress has disclaimed one James Adeshina as the governorship candidate of the party in Lagos State.
The party also asked the Nigerian Television Authority not to allow him to appear on the station’s programme.
Adesina was earlier expected to appear on the television station on Sunday, July 17.
“AAC has asked NTA to disinvite this fellow (Adeshina) because he’s not the governorship candidate of the party,” a top party source told SaharaReporters.
The AAC had recently been rescued from impostors and proxies of the government and the Independent National Electoral Commission who wanted to hijack its activities.
In June, the Court of Appeal in Abuja had affirmed Omoyele Sowore as the substantive chairman of the AAC.
The appellate court set aside the judgment of the lower court recognising Leonard Nzenwa as acting chairman and awarded N200,000 as damages in favour of Sowore.
Few days after the appeal court judgement, the human rights activist won the presidential ticket of the AAC.
Sowore was declared the winner unopposed at the party’s national convention in Abuja, which was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and attended by members of the party across the country.
The activist will be up against Bola Tinubu, APC standard-bearer, Atiku Abubakar, PDP presidential candidate; Peter Obi, Labour Party presidential candidate, and others in the 2023 general elections.
#Osun Decides: Former APC National Chairman, Bisi Akande Loses Local Government To PDP
The opposition Peoples Democratic Party has been declared the winner of the governorship election in the Ila Local Government Area of Osun State, the home of the pioneer national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Bisi Akande.
The result of the LGA seen by SaharaReporters showed that PDP secured 13,026 votes while the APC polled 9,562 votes.
Ademola Adeleke is the PDP candidate while Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the APC is seeking a reelection.
Akande was deputy governor of Oyo State between 1979 and 1983 when Bola Ige was governor (Osun State was formerly part of Oyo State).
In 1999, he was elected governor of Osun State.
The 2022 Osun governorship election, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is taking place in all the 30 local government areas of the state with 3,763 polling units and 332 registration areas.
In 2018, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Oyetola as winner, having polled 255,505 votes against Adeleke, who had 255,023 votes at the end of a supplementary election, which held in seven polling units across four local governments amidst allegations of harassment and other forms of malpractice.
There are a total of 1,955,657 registered voters in the election which held across 3,763 polling units.
Appeal Court Orders Retrial Of N5billion Defamation Suit Filed By Businessman, Dokpesi Against Information Minister, Lai Mohammed
The Court of Appeal, Abuja, has ordered a fresh trial of the appeal filed against the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed and the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, in a N5billion defamation suit brought by business mogul, Raymond Dokpesi.
Dokpesi had alleged on March 30, 2019, during a media conference that Mohammed and Malami defamed his character where the information minister referred to him as one of the looters of Nigeria’s treasury.
The inclusion of Dokpesi’s name as number four on the treasury looters’ list which portrayed him as “a corrupt and crooked person, a dishonest man and a thief” compelled him to approach the trial court.
A three-man panel presided over by Justice Abraham Goergewill in appeal No: CA/ABJ/616/2021, argued by Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN) ordered the retrial after setting aside the judgment of the lower court for failing to give the business mogul a fair hearing before dismissing his suit against the minister.
Other members of the panel that delivered the unanimous judgement were Justice Mohammed Mustapha and Justice Bature Isa Gafai.
Justice Olukayode Adeniyi had in a judgment in Suit No: FCT/HC/CV/1615/2018, delivered on July 6, 2021, held that Dokpesi failed to establish his claim that Mohammed defamed him by including his name in a list that he termed “looters of the Nigerian treasury”, at a press conference he (Mohammed) addressed on March 30, 2018.
Justice Adeniyi, in the judgment, had faulted the evidence led by Dokpesi through the eight witnesses he called and held that the claimant failed to prove the publication of the defamatory statement.
The Judge held that the evidence of the eight witnesses were quite similar, giving the impression that they were tutored, with their statements made beforehand through the same mechanical means.
Noting that the situation presented by the witnesses could be termed; “hear one, hear all,” the judge found that the evidence of the witnesses were materially the same.
Justice Adeniyi also noted that while Dokpesi pleaded libel, all his witnesses gave evidence of slander, with all of them claiming to have heard of the defamatory publication on Channels Television.
The judge found that the witnesses called by Dokpesi, who claimed to have watched the press conference on Channels TV, did not give evidence in respect of the exact statement made by Mohammed, which they claimed defamed the claimant.
Appealing this decision, Ozekhome argued that Dokpesi had proved the essential element of publication of the libel because Lai Mohammed had himself put forward the defence of fair comment and qualified privilege, which was itself clearly an admission of publication by him.
The appellate court agreed with Ozekhome and upturned the judgment, holding that the decision of the lower court was erroneous, having not given Dokpesi a fair hearing before dismissing his suit.
The three-man panel of Justices further held that the lower court did not dispassionately hear the suit and thereby committed a fatal error. Consequently, the court nullified the decision of the trial court on the ground that the appellant was not given fair hearing and ordered trial of the suit denovo, before any other Judge of the FCT High Court, other than Justice Olukayode Adeniyi.

I Didn’t Select Bola Tinubu As Presidential Candidate; APC Delegates Did – Buhari Speaks Ahead Of 2023 Elections
President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he did not influence the election of former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu, as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that the process was “will of the party members.”
Buhari stated this according to a release on Saturday in Daura, Katsina State, when he paid a Sallah homage to the Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumini Kabir Usman.
“When the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) signalled parties to elect their presidential candidates, we had 30 aspirants, mostly ministers in my cabinet and governors,” the President said.
“I told each of the aspirants to go and do their best. One particular governor, in his wisdom, came to meet me and asked who they should vote for at the party convention, checking if I had a preferred candidate.
“There was no need for interference, knowing the competence of all the aspirants. They went and elected Tinubu, and he picked his running mate, Sen. Kashim Ibrahim process in choosing our candidates for the 2023 elections. I am praying that we will have a peaceful and successful election.”
Buhari, who thanked Nigerians for their support for the APC in 2015, and 2019, said he had a rich experience in 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015 presidential elections, travelling to all the 774 local councils in the country, and in 2019 visiting 36 states.
“They say he who wants to serve should be ready for the responsibility of leadership. Three times I wanted this position and three times I ended up at the Supreme Court. For that reason, in terms of experience, I have gathered a lot. I visited 774 local councils in 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015.
“I feel privileged that Nigerians elected me in 2015. Since then, we have been doing our best to tackle the challenges, with God helping us. We are not alone. If only we know what other countries in Africa are passing through, we will be grateful to God, and protect our country. Other African countries are passing through a lot.
“As leaders, we are doing our best, and will keep doing our best to improve the situation. I am praying that the Almighty God will give us more strength and wisdom to protect our people, and fulfill our promises of ensuring wellbeing.”
The President said his administration would do its best to address the concerns on security, which the Emir of Katsina and Governor Aminu Bello Masari highlighted in their remarks.
“I have heard all that the governor and emir have to say on what people expect from government. I will not add anything. I am the one receiving the orders. I will continue to do my best,” he added.
Before departing Katsina for Abuja, President Buhari donated four bulls, two to the army and two to the air force officers, bags of rice and some money to those fighting banditry and terrorism in the state for their Sallah celebrations, Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President, said in the statement on Saturday.

#Osun Decides: AAC Party Denies Adopting PDP Candidate, Adeleke
The African Action Congress (AAC) has denied the report that it adopted the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ademola Adeleke, in the ongoing governorship election in Osun State.
The party said it never connived with any political party or affiliates because it was against the tenets of the party.
In a statement signed by the Osun State Publicity Secretary, Akinlade Semiu Babatunde, on Saturday, the party described the news making the round as fake and should be disregarded by the public.
The statement read, "We write to inform members of the public and Osun State indigenes that the news making rounds that the AAC adopted one SENATOR ADEMOLA ADELEKE of the PDP is FAKE and should be dispelled in its entirety.
"We want to state categorically that AAC is an ideology-based political party that can never connive with any of the political parties or their affiliates because this is against the core tenets of a revolutionary party like ours.
"It's worthy to note that the Independent National Electoral Commission and the PDP have connived to sell out our party. We learnt about this on Friday when INEC refused to release AAC agents’ party cards to our members when they visited their respective LGA collation centres.
"We found out that INEC handed over our party cards to one of the chieftains of the PDP in Osogbo in the early hours of Friday.
“Finally, PDP and his candidate ADEMOLA ADELEKE should brace up as we won't leave any stone unturned to resist this daylight robbery.”
Nigerian Secret Police, DSS No Longer Allows Nnamdi Kanu Approved Time With Visitors – IPOB Kicks
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has raised the alarm that the Department of State Services (DSS) no longer allows its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu, to spend the approved period of time with his visitors in the facility.
IPOB in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, accused the DSS of violating the existing strict orders by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court on Kanu’s welfare, describing such violation as “deliberate, permanent and insidious psychological torture being committed against Kanu.”
The group noted that the DSS action against Kanu is in contravention of United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and other International Human Rights laws and principles.
IPOB said that “There abound obvious and utter disregard by DSS on the existing laws and thereby, consistently flouting the court ruling that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu deserves an interface with fellow humans. Solitary confinement is a torture under UN Law.
“Justice Binta made a Court Order that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu should be visited twice a week, Mondays and Thursdays by his lawyers, family members and visitors of his choice. We want to make it known to all and sundry that our leader is now being allowed to see his visitors for only 30 minutes in contravention of the competent court Order that approved 2 hours per visit by his lawyers and family members.”
Warning the DSS to observe and obey the court orders, IPOB said, “We want to remind DSS of their required obligations, some of which are to abide by stipulated Court Orders and procedures in handling all matters associated with our leader, Kanu, so as to minimise unforeseen circumstantial consequences should anything goes wrong.
“We are making a public call and open invitation to the international community, Amnesty International, embassies, governments, Intersociety and non-governmental organisations including all reputable human rights organisations to monitor the gross violation of all known fundamental human rights of the IPOB leader and other illegally incarcerated IPOB members in Nigeria.
“It's no doubt that Biafrans, especially Igbos race and their religious worshippers are racially profiled and discriminated against in Nigeria by DSS. That's is why notorious terrorists and bandits from the North can kill and commits all sorts of crimes and never get arrested but innocent and unarmed Biafrans especially Igbos including old men and women are indiscriminately arrested, tortured, incarcerated and forcefully dispersed without trace by this lawless DSS and their sister security agents.”
According to IPOB, the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and their Additional Protocols of 8 June 1977 contain a number of provisions that fully prohibits torture and other cruel and inhuman treatment “that DSS mated on Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and other individuals, especially IPOB members.”
“If anything goes wrong with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in Nigeria's DSS solitary confinement or custody they will know that IPOB members are not pushed over, and the consequences will leave for generations.”
IPOB called on the global communities to take note of the “atrocities being perpetrated against our leader Mazi Nnamdi KANU by the Nigeria Government and their lawless DSS. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is being tortured in DSS dungeon because he spends four days in Solitary confinement and allowed only 30minutes to relate with humans on Mondays and Thursdays.
“As against the subsisting Court Order that allowed Mazi Nnamdi KANU to stay up to 2 hours with his visitors, DSS no longer allows his visitors to stay with him longer than 30 minutes on each visiting day. How do DSS want Mazi Nnamdi Kanu's lawyers to interact with their clients for 30 minutes over ongoing cases?
“The Court approved time has been illegally changed in breach of the Court Order without due process. This flagrant abuse of Court Orders and dehumanization of our Leader is not acceptable and must be stopped going forward.”
Oaths, Coupons Used To Threaten Osun Voters Before Paying Them Money – Situation Room Laments Widespread Vote-buying In Governorship Poll
The Civil Society Situation Room has decried the high rate of vote-buying in the ongoing Osun State governorship election.
The CSOs stated this in a post-election analysis briefing on Saturday in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
They regretted that as of the time of having the briefing, security agents had not arrested many of those involved in the rampant vote-buying going on openly in all the polling units observed.
The leader of the CSO Situation Room, who addressed the media said they would not conclude whether the poll was credible or not until after the election.
The CSOs said, "There is open vote-buying and selling in some of the polling units by the polling agents in the areas covered. There is no complaint from any of them (party agents) or talking to each other. And that was something we could not really figure out because we think that when you see negotiations, the other party agents will be complaining. In this case, other party agents are not complaining except one place we saw a party agent standing very firm and said you cannot do certain things here."
They also stated that oaths and coupons were used to extract commitment from voters.
While commending the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for early deployment of materials and officials, the groups disclosed that "priority voting was also observed for the elderly and disabled in most of the polling units. The Situation Room notes that a few of the polling units were also located in places with staircases making it impossible for those who are having clutches to exercise their franchise."
She added, "In conclusion, situation room observation observed that there was no violence recorded and the number of people who came out was very encouraging, it is likely we are going to have higher voter turnout.
"We commend the people of Osun State for coming out early to cast their votes especially the elderly who waited on the queues. INEC deployment and materials and personnel should also be commended, so we also commend the Commission for the early deployment. Early voting was recorded in most of the areas that we observed, especially outside Oshogbo. And voting continued with stakeholders maintaining the peaceful atmosphere that was maintained."
