Workers In Nigerian Agency, NAFDAC Embark On Strike Over Non-payment Of Allowances

22 June 2022 - 5:06am

Medical and health workers union of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), on Wednesday, embarked on a strike.
The striking workers under the aegis of Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria said they would not call off the strike until their welfare packages were paid.

Meanwhile, TheCable had learnt that the union is divided over the issue of strike action. According to a source, only the Lagos and southern part of the union embarked on the strike.
The source said though the entire union agreed on the matter of welfare package, the Abuja and northern axis of the union disagreed on the strike as the method to achieving their demands because they believed it was premature.
“According to the director of administration, the workers declared a strike action but the union is divided,” the source said.
“The Lagos/southern people are the ones currently on strike. Abuja and the northern axis are not on strike. They are not all gathered in one place. The chairman is in Lagos and the vice-chairman is in Abuja.
“The Abuja axis believes that the strike is premature and that they will not join. As I speak with you, the staff in Abuja and other northern states are in their offices. They want to give the management some time.
“The management is trying to hold a meeting with them; so until after that meeting, they will now decide. If management does not give in to their request, then they can join the Lagos workers to embark on the strike.
“The issue is bordering on staff welfare. The Lagos and Abuja chapters are unanimous on the issue but the method of achieving it is what they disagree on, particularly the timing.
“The first meeting that was called did not hold because the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health who was supposed to be at that meeting had to attend the Federal Executive Council meeting. They are trying to fix another meeting but the Lagos people refused; saying they want to go on strike.”

EXCLUSIVE: How Nigerian Tribunal, CCT Chairman, Umar Allegedly Inflates Contracts, Uses Attorney-General Malami To Escape Probe By Anti-graft Agency, EFCC

22 June 2022 - 4:59am

Danladi Umar

Some workers in the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Abuja, have accused its chairman, Danladi Umar, of fraud, corruption, nepotism and marginalisation.
The chairman was also accused of awarding fraudulent contracts to friends without recourse to procedure and due process.

Danladi Umar
Speaking to SaharaReporters, one of the workers added that Umar had drained the finances of the agency without any significant project to match the billions of naira allocated to it annually.
He added that annual trainings for staff had been blocked by the Tribunal Chairman.
The source also accused Umar of turning the Jabi headquarters of the agency in Abuja to a hotel by allegedly bringing different women to sleep with him in the office overnight.
“What is happening in CCT is unprecedented; we have been suffering under Umar for the past 10 years. He recently took things to another level of contract inflation and squandering of the resources of the tribunal at the detriment of the smooth operations of the agency and its workers. The level of corruption is mind-boggling,” the worker told SaharaReporters.
“With the backing of (the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice) Abubakar Malami, he has turned the tribunal to his personal estate. We no more go for training. He has a bed in his office and now brings different women to spend the night with him.
“President Buhari and the National Assembly members should help us, this is a man who has no respect for any workers, what he did to a security man at a popular plaza in Abuja is small to what he does to workers here.
“Anytime the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission wants to investigate him, the AGF Malami would ask them not to; more so, some whistleblowers were recently sacked over Umar’s issues.”
Another worker said, “The situation has gone so bad to the extent that he now brings women to the office to sleep with. This is because he can no longer afford hotel bills as he is highly indebted to most hotels in Abuja.
“The suffering is too much. A visit to the Tribunal premises will speak volume from the exterior to the interior part of the building.”
On March 29, 2021, Umar came into the limelight in recent times when he publicly assaulted one Clement Sargwak, a security guard at Banex Plaza in Wuse 2, Abuja.
In a five-minute viral video clip, he was seen slapping and kicking the security guard after an altercation ensued between them over a parking space on the premises of the plaza.
The victim, bruised on the lip he was attacked by Umar after he approached him for parking wrongly.
He subsequently went to court to challenge the powers of the Senate to investigate him in an alleged assault against the security guard.

How I Was Forcefully Married To Boko Haram Since 2014, Escaped From Camp – Chibok Schoolgirl

22 June 2022 - 4:52am

A Chibok town, Borno State schoolgirl, identified as Hauwa Joseph, has disclosed that she was forcefully married to Amir Abbah, one of the Boko Haram’s Commanders at Gazuwa camp, who was later killed during one of the encounters with the troops of the Nigerian Army.
Hauwa escaped from the Boko Haram camp in Gazuwa during a massive incursion of the troops of the Nigerian Army into the location on June 12.

She revealed this while narrating her tribulation to newsmen in Maiduguri, Borno State, at a news conference held at the Command and Control Centre, Maimalari Cantonment, stating that terrorists in the camp were running for safety while troops were advancing, she took a separate route to escape from the terrorists’ camp.
She said, “On my way, I met with some of the insurgents who asked me where I was going, but I tricked them by telling them that I was following some women to hide in the nearby forest.
“I slept under a tree with my child, then proceeded the next day until I arrived at the road where I approached a military checkpoint.
“Initially, they thought I was a suicide bomber, but when I explained myself, they took me along with them.”
She appreciated the Nigerian Army for rescuing her and hoped other girls who are still in some of the terrorists’ camps would be rescued.
Recall that Hauwa Joseph was one out of the more than 200 female students of the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State abducted in April 2014 by Boko Haram terrorists.
About 100 of the school girls are still missing seven years after the initial abduction.

22 June 2022 - 4:51am

The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the killing and beheading of a former state lawmaker, Hon. Nelson Emeka Achukwu, by unidentified gunmen.
This came after one month after Okechukwu Okoye, a serving lawmaker representing Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s constituency at the State Assembly was kidnapped and later found beheaded.

SaharaReporters had reported that Okoye was kidnapped along with his aide on May 15, 2022, and was later found dead with his head cut off and dropped at Nnobi area.
But confirming the recent incident to SaharaReporters on Tuesday, the command's spokesman, Ikenga Tochukwu, said Achukwu's remains were found between the boundary of Uke and Ukpor communities.
The PPRO said “the victim was abducted at about 10:15pm in his house on June 9, 2022 and efforts were being made to rescue him before this unfortunate development. His body was found between the boundary of Uke and Ukpor.
“We are still not relenting on our investigation as we will ensure that the culprits will face the full wrath of the law."
The former lawmaker was reportedly kidnapped in his home in Ukpor, Nnewi South LGA, despite being physically challenged.
His decapitated body was later found at the bank of Ulasi River and was quickly buried by the family on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 evening as the body was already decomposing.
A family source told SaharaReporters that they couldn’t believe he would be killed after they paid the N15million ransom requested by his abductors.
The victim, the owner of Nelly Oil & Gas filling station located along Onuselogu road, Utuh, had earlier been abducted and released a few months ago.
Later Achukwu was said to have told his family members that his captors had accused him of providing information to the military but got released when they found out the allegations were false.
As at the time of filing this report the reason for his second kidnap and murder is unknown.

I’m Not A Campaign Clown, I’ll Deliver What I Promised By Bayo Oluwasanmi

22 June 2022 - 4:12am

The presidential primaries are over. We turn our attention from the much ridiculed speeches during the primaries by the APC and PDP presidential aspirants. It is time for both candidates to start making campaign promises they have no intention of fulfilling.
As usual, most of the campaign promises will be garden variety pandering: electricity 24/7, 400 million jobs, 500 million public housing units, that kind of thing. Of course, some will be truly crazy, outlandish, or bizarre. The candidates’ lunacy will prey on the gullible Nigerian voters.
Although I have never wanted to be president, I’m tempted to run for office just so I could provide a counter-offensive to the campaign clowns of APC and PDP.

Political campaign slogans and promises have proven odd or embarrassing. They are full of puns, rhymes, and catchy phrases to energize the exploited and abused Nigerian people. As a candidate, my campaign hinges on the following 15 promises ever made by a presidential candidate. They will be the priorities of my administration. I’ll deliver on the promises:
15. I will move the Nigerian economy from a cow economy to a rabbit economy.
14. I’ll make disabled Nigerians walk again.
13. No other nation in the world will have better-educated citizens like Nigeria.
12. As president, I’ll veto any bill longer than one page.
11. All National Assembly members must smoke marijuana and cocaine before each session is declared open.
10. I’ll construct a pathway for cows from Daura to Niger, from Niger to Sudan, and from Sudan to Saudi Arabia.
9. I’ll build a wall between River Niger and River Benue to avoid any clash or crisis. Rivers Calabar and Ogun will pay for the construction.
8. I will appoint General Muhammadu Buhari as the Chief Justice of the federation based on his knowledge, understanding, and experience of Sharia law, constitutional law on nepotism, ethnic cleansing, terrorism, and other barbaric acts.
7. I’ll unite Boko Haram, ISIS, ISWAP, and Fulani terrorists. They will be allowed to run for any public office.
6. I’ll outlaw Amala and Abula in the southwest, Fura and Nunu in the north, and Edikaikong in the East.
5. I promise to change Nigeria’s name to Sodom and Gomorrah.
4. I will create a ministry of embezzlement and looting.
3. Nigeria will become the world's largest producer of Kulikuli and Kilishi.
2. I’ll eliminate NNPC, EFCC, all primary and secondary schools and all universities in Nigeria.
1. I’ll withdraw all Nigerian troops from Ukraine.
Some of the promises may sound a little believable, but others sound believable enough to be elected the next president of Nigeria. I’m not like the APC and PDP candidates, the campaign clowns. I’ll deliver what I promised.

Anybody Labelling Us As Terrorists Should Visit Psychiatric Hospital – IPOB Slams Buhari Government

22 June 2022 - 3:21am

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has taken a swipe at President Muhammadu Buhari after the latter urged western allies to designate the group as a terrorist organisation.
The group, in a statement on Wednesday by Emma Powerful, noted that anyone who tags it as a terror or proscribed group needs to be examined at a psychiatrist's hospital.

It further warned politicians in the South-East region to stop associating it with criminal acts perpetrated by unknown gunmen, alleging that the same politicians who are linking IPOB to criminal activities are the ones fuelling the crimes in the region.
IPOB said it is a disciplined, focused freedom movement that would rather not involve in criminal activities as this would delay the actualisation of the independent Biafran Nation.
It further alleged that the Nigerian police, the army and the DSS agents are the key actors in the kidnapping and unlawful killings going on in Anambra, Abia, Imo, Ebonyi and Enugu states.
The group said, “Following the incessant abductions, killings, humiliation and sponsorship of all manner of criminalities in the Eastern region for quite some time now, IPOB reminds politicians that the time has come for them to turn a new leaf, desist from making themselves available to the enemies of our people to use as tools of destabilising the Eastern Region and cause anarchy in our land or be ready to face the consequences.
“Men of perdition must stop linking IPOB with their evil actions because we are not morally bankrupt as they the political harlots they are.
”IPOB is a very disciplined, very focused freedom movement. We have no business with political criminals and we do not have any business with criminality because if IPOB engages in any form of criminality, we will be delaying the coming of an Independent Biafran Nation and we certainly have no intention or desire to delay the freedom and liberty of the Biafran people.
“IPOB has no plans neither are we complicit in the political killings, kidnapping of religious leaders and business people going on in our territory but these evil politicians working for the Nigerian government are behind and sponsoring all criminalities going-on and we must be held accountable.
“We have published names of some of those politicians and their thugs responsible for these criminalities happening now in the region as well as the Nigerian Army harbouring in their barracks Fulani terrorists masquerading as herdsmen to attack our land and kidnap for ransom.
“If we are terrorists, the European Union (EU) cannot afford to allow IPOB to demonstrate in their headquarters in Brussels in Belgium. Therefore, anybody or media who reports IPOB as terror group or proscribed group should purely examine themselves in the psychiatrist centre.
“We are not interested in the selection process called Nigeria election, yet we cannot afford to allow anyone or group behind the killings and kidnap in our land to continue.
“Politicians in the Eastern region must desist from evil acts such as using thugs to attack their perceived political stumbling block with the evil intention that IPOB would be blamed without investigation. Whosoever allows himself/herself as willing tools in the hands of politicians would regret such action soon."

Qatar Government Bans Sex During World Cup For Players, Fans, Says Violators Risk Seven Years In Jail

22 June 2022 - 2:53am

The Qatar government has banned sex-outside-marriage by players and fans during the forthcoming 2022 World Cup Tournament and prescribed seven years’ imprisonment for anyone who is found guilty of the directive.
The country prohibits anyone from having sex outside of marriage, and World Cup fans are by no means exempted from this.

Qatar also has a strict “no drinking in public” law; moreover, the country prohibits anyone from being publicly intoxicated.
Public affection between men and women is also a crime, and one is not to wear excessively revealing clothing in public.
The World Cup is football’s global celebration, but the rules in Qatar could be very strict.
Meanwhile, a police source was quoted in the British press saying that “sex is not the order of the day, unless you come as a couple.”
“There will certainly be no one-night stands at this tournament. There will be no partying at all, really. Everyone has to keep a cool head, unless they want to risk going to jail. For the first time in the history of the World Cup, sex is banned. Fans need to be prepared.”
A few weeks ago, the Emir of Qatar explained that “everyone is welcome” at the tournament. “We don’t prevent anyone from coming to Doha with different backgrounds, different beliefs, Qatar is a very welcoming country.
“We have millions of people who come to visit our country and the World Cup is a great opportunity for people from different parts of the world to come and discover our culture,” said Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani.

Court Slams $500,000 Compensation On American Actor, Bill Cosby Over Sexual Assault

22 June 2022 - 2:18am

A jury, on Tuesday, ruled that American actor and comedian, Bill Cosby, sexually assaulted a woman, Judy Huth in 1975, when she was 16-year-old.
Huth, now 64, testified that Cosby forced her to perform a sexual act on him at the Playboy Mansion at the venue.

In the lawsuit filed in December 2014, Huth claimed the 84-year-old, who was 37 at that time, invited her to a bedroom, and kissed and groped her without consent.
In its verdict, the jury ordered the comedian to pay the woman $500,000 in damages for emotional distress from the incident
Meanwhile, the reviled former icon, once known as “America’s Dad,” didn’t testify or appear in Los Angeles County Court during the trial but had denied sexual contact with Huth in a sworn deposition in 2015 that was played for jurors.
Cosby’s spokesperson, Andrew Wyatt, told The Post that the comedian plans to file an appeal on the $500,000 judgement.
This comes a year after the comedian walked free from prison after his sexual assault conviction was thrown out.
More than 50 women accused him of multiple sexual assaults over nearly five decades.

Where Are INEC’s New Machines? – Enugu State Residents Protest At Electoral Commission’s Office Over Inability To Register

22 June 2022 - 2:00am

Hundreds of residents of Enugu State, on Tuesday protested over delay and technical errors in the continuous voters’ registration (CVR) exercise in the state.
The residents protested at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state.

A video of the protest SaharaReporters saw on Wednesday, showed protesters chanting, “Give Us More Machines”; “INEC, Stop Stressing Us”; “Some of Us Have Spent Three Days on a Simple Exercise”, among others.
One of the voices in the video lamented that he had spent over N5,000 for transport to and fro from Nsukka to come to Enugu for the exercise.
"Today is the fifth day I am coming to register but I haven't been registered. Where are the machines the commission said they were deploying to Enugu and other parts of South-East?
"After this stress, during the time of the collection of the cards, they subjected us to another stress. This is why people are not showing interest. This should be done in a manner that will reduce much stress on Nigerians."
Addressing the protesters on the development, Rex Achumie, Head of Department, voter education and publicity of INEC in Enugu, assured them that the commission would ensure that eligible voters are registered.
“I will personally supervise to see that the commission decongests the high number of CVR registrants in Okpara Square and ensure they are being taken care of from tomorrow,” he said.
“I am also appealing to you to also use other CVR registration centres, especially the ones scattered in various local government areas to see that the crowd at Okpara Square is reduced.”
SaharaReporters had reported INEC had fixed June 30 as the deadline for the suspension of CVR exercise across the country ahead of the 2023 general elections.
It was also reported that a Federal High Court in Abuja stopped INEC from ending the CVR exercise, following a suit filed by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) and 185 Nigerians.
The commission has also said it will abide by the court decision.

Russian Invasion: Medical, Dental Degrees From Ukraine In 2022 Won’t Be Accepted — Nigerian Council, MDCN

22 June 2022 - 1:47am

The Nigerian Medical and Dental Council (MDCN) has disclosed that Nigeria will not accept medical and dental degrees obtained from Ukrainian universities in 2022.
This was stated by the medical union via its Twitter handle, citing the Russian invasion of the country since February 2022.

According to the tweet, “We wish to inform the General Public that Medical and Dental Degree Certificates issued by Medical Schools from Ukraine from 2022 will NOT be honoured by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria until when normal academic activities resume."
MDCN is the professional health regulatory agency for the professions of Medicine, Dentistry and Alternative Medicine in Nigeria.
The council explained that it took the decision due to the ongoing war in Ukraine that had affected physical classes in higher institutions in the country.
Even though many of these schools have opted for online classes, the council ruled that it is against medical and dental programmes in Nigeria.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Council categorically states that online medical training done in any part of the world is short of acceptable standard and is not recognised by the MDCN,” the council added.

Nigerian London-Lagos Biker, Adeyanju To Embark On Another Trip To Israel

22 June 2022 - 1:41am

Nigerian London-Lagos biker, Kunle Adeyanju, has disclosed that he would be embarking on another adventurous ride from Lagos, Nigeria to Everest in Israel and from Israel to Tibet - an autonomous region in China.
The Kwara State-born adventurer who disclosed this in an interview with Arise TV on Tuesday, said that his plan is to accomplish his adventurous mission no later than 2024.

Recall that Adeyanju who had embarked on the London-Lagos adventurous bike ride on a bike he named “Eagle” to raise funds for #EndPolio campaign arrived in Lagos on May 29 after 41 days from April 19 that he left London.
Adeyanju, who shared his experience during the journey, said he covered about 13,000km passing through 11 countries.
He revealed that he was moved to embark on the #EndPolio fundraising ride after his close friend died of polio two years ago, saying that he dedicated the journey to the late friend.
The adventurous biker who also said he spoke to the bike “Eagle” at his difficult moment during his London-Lagos journey added that he would auction his Eagle bike which he wished to be in a museum for people to see in later years.
He also said that the bike communicated back to him when he spoke to it.
He said, “You know during the course of the trip, the bike became my friend, my closest companion. I spoke to him and discovered that machines also have soul. We may think they are just metals but they have soul because I spoke to Eagle a lot on the trip and the bike did respond back to me. We communicated.
“It’s going to be disrespectful for me to ride Eagle just as a street bike because he’s done that very big and great thing. It was a teamwork between me and Eagle. So, I’m going to be auctioning Eagle and I hope whoever ends up buying Eagle is going to put it in a museum where people can see. The generation cannot only hear the story but let them see.”
For his next journey, Adeyanju said, “I’m going to buy another bike and do another adventure. My next adventure is going to be riding from Lagos to Israel, just passing through Israel then to Tibet.
“Then, I actually want to ride on a Tibetan plane because that is the highest plateau you have in the world. They say God lives in Tibet because of the highest purity. I want to experience that purity.
“My destination is Everest. I’m going to drop my bike at Everest base camp and try to climb Everest. That’s what I’m going to do with myself in the next two years.”

The National leader of the All Progressives Congress, who is also the party's presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, has told Lagos State first-class rulers to prepare for the coming 2023 elections.
Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, told the traditional rulers to be firm and steadfast in their resolve for his candidacy if they want to "benefit" from him when he becomes president.

Addressing the chiefs upon returning to Lagos after winning the ruling party’s presidential ticket, Tinubu said, “White attire and white cap chiefs, if you want a white cap from the President, you have to be firm.
“It is not something funny. It is our time. This is not a funny thing. It is not something you can joke about. It is something that requires prayer. You have to be steadfast with your work and it will come to pass.”
SaharaReporters on Tuesday reported that a former Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu, scolded Tinubu, telling him not to waste his time and resources in contesting for president.
According to Aliyu during an interview on Channels TV on Tuesday, Tinubu should have supported a younger candidate like the Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi to win the party’s presidential ticket.
“Bola Tinubu a good friend, I don't think he should waste his time now, and I think he should reserve his resources for another thing and I thought that it would have been better for him to have sponsored younger people into this win. He has the governor of Ekiti, Fayemi, he has other young people that he could have sponsored and allowed it happen, no matter what he thought he could do to Nigeria, these people would do it better,” Aliyu had said.
"His (Tinubu’s) outburst in Abeokuta; I don't think any person can say in Nigeria of today of 200million people, this is my turn. It is never your turn; even if you want to say, it's the turn of the people or of your own, let's even put it that way, then put all what that's has happened given all the ethnic groups in Nigeria, the North-East, North-Central, South-East has never had a presidency in Nigeria, even if that's a claim to be made;  these are the zones that could make such a claim but for you to think because you have helped somebody to be and therefore it must be your turn, agreement was not written. There was no evidence that there was an agreement that was written for somebody to say it's my turn.
“If it's your turn in the APC that's your own problem but that's not for Nigerians. Nigerians will come to decide what is best for them given what we have gone through,” Babangida had noted.

Nigerian Police Arrest Pastor, Son In Abuja Over Female Corpse Dumped By River

22 June 2022 - 12:29am

The Nigeria Police Force, Federal Capital Territory Command, on Monday arrested a pastor and his son in the Kubwa area of Abuja over a mutilated female corpse dumped in the area.
A source told Daily Trust on Tuesday that the pastor and his son were arrested after a tricycle rider approached the police and told them that he conveyed the three sacks used in concealing the remains of the victim and those of the animals.

The source said, “The son lied to the Keke rider that the sacks were scraps and asked him to take them to the PW Bridge dumping site. The rider charged him N1,000.
"It was the following morning after the baban bola (scavengers) broke the bags in their usual search for items that they discovered the contents and alerted people. The information got to the Keke rider and he voluntarily led the police to the church.”
Daily Trust also gathered that the pastor’s son was in handcuffs and the pastor was seen being led out of the building by the police around 3pm on Monday into a police van.
He said the police later returned to the area on Tuesday afternoon to make further searches on the building before they sealed the church premises.
The police noted that two people were in police custody.
SaharaReporters earlier reported there was tension in Kubwa when residents found the butchered body of a yet-to-be-identified lady by a river in PW area, near Deeper Life Church.
The incident attracted a large crowd as residents thronged the location to catch a glimpse of the butchered and decapitated body of the lady.
A beheaded corpse of a naked woman packed inside two bags was seen beside the river, while the body parts were cut into pieces with blood stains on the bags.

Shop Owner, Security Company In Legal Tussle Over Stolen Generator In Abuja Plaza

22 June 2022 - 12:05am

A shop owner, Engr. Chibisi Nwabeze at ANON Plaza Gudu, Abuja has accused three guards and employees of Nocturnus Security Limited of being complicit in the theft of his ThermoCool generator by yet-to-be-identified persons in the plaza.

He also dragged the security company before a magistrate’s court sitting in Kabusa on the offence bordering on criminal negligence and conspiracy.

The incident happened between Friday, April 15 and Monday, April 18, 2022, during the holiday declared by the Nigerian government to mark this year’s Easter celebrations.

The generator was said to have ‘disappeared’ even though three security guards were on duty.

Chibisi said he was miffed by the negligence of the three officers and the reaction of the security company charged with the responsibility of providing security in the plaza when he demanded an explanation on how only his generator was missing in the plaza.

The security company allegedly claimed that they were not liable and could not be held responsible for the stolen generator.

The company through its manager, Mr. Joseph maintained that though they were entrusted with the security of the plaza, they would not take any responsibility for the theft because there was no power supply at the plaza for the CCTV cameras to capture the perpetrators.

Chibisi who is also the Executive Director of Leadership and Accountability Initiative said he got to know that his generator was missing from the premises upon resuming work after the Easter holiday on Tuesday, April 19.

He said the situation compelled him to question the security company about how the thieves managed to gain access to the plaza without the knowledge of the guards on duty.

He alleged that the security company was unwilling to produce the three guards who were on duty on the day the incident occurred until the matter was formally reported at Apo Police Station.

The three security guards were invited by the police and granted administrative bail.

It was learnt that they were later charged to court for criminal negligence and conspiracy on Monday, June 20, 2022, but the case could not go on due to the absence of one of them.

Chibisi while narrating the story to SaharaReporters said, "When we came back from Easter holiday, we asked the security company and the manager told us that they don't know who stole it because there was no electricity and that the CCTV could not capture the person.

“Look at the proximity of the generator to the gate. There is supposed to be a security company manning the gate which means every day there must be a security guard at this gate. There is no way you can come here and carry a big generator without somebody at the gate to help you.

“It is either the security company stole it or they have hand in the stealing of the generator.

"I gave them one week to provide my generator but from their body language, it was obvious that they were not ready for settlement because they insisted that they were not liable.

"We reported the matter at Apo Police Station and the police took over the case. They invited the security company and we asked our company lawyer to meet with them.

"So on Monday, June 20, the police charged them to court but unfortunately the case could not come up because one of them was absent.”

Meanwhile, when SaharaReporters contacted the Managing Director of the security company, Akpos Dick, he said he had reached out to Chibisi on the need to resolve the matter amicably without necessarily going to court but he turned down his suggestion.

He also insisted that the company was not liable in line with the contract they signed with the management of ANON Plaza, noting that they were ready to pursue the case in the court to a logical conclusion.

He said, "Well I called him on the phone for us to resolve this matter amicably and for us not to drag it beyond necessary. But he insisted on going to court. Even the management of the Plaza who we have a contract with offered him a generator but he refused.

"I am a gentleman and I am ready to sit down with him and settle this matter. Three of our officers were arrested and our lawyer went there to bail them.  We are not liable and wherever he wants to go, we will go with him."

SaharaReporters learnt that a woman who has a restaurant in the plaza also had a similar experience some time ago. Her shop was burgled and her goods were carted away.
